Marty Q has reached #12 on Billboard Airplay charts with his hit song "Table for 2" in the Smooth Jazz Genre. (USA)
Marty has shared the same stage as Joan Jett, John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band, Richard Elliott, Rick Braun and many more.
After Marty stamped his sweet soprano sax sound on "My Girl" on Shanachie Records compilation CD titled "Smooth Jazz Plays Motown's Favorite Love Songs" Marty teamed up with the producer Chris "Big Dog" Davis to do his own project titled “Table For 2”.
A lush CD with a blend of melodic tunes featuring Marty's signature angelic soprano sax and some very flavorful tenor expressions too. The title track "Table for 2" went to #12 on The Billboard Indicator Chart for airplay in the country in Smooth Jazz.
Growing up the youngest of 7 children Marty was influenced by all styles of Music, mainly Jazz, Rock & R&B. Marty played clarinet and drums at an early age of 6 years old.
It wasn't until High School that Marty played sax. Marty throughout High School and College played in clubs drumming and singing and did some studio work as well.
How “No Boundaries” CD came to be:
On a personal note, my last recording, “Table for 2” which was released in 2010, turned out to be a very successful project for my recording career and an incredible experience to be able to work with some amazingly talented people in the music business.
Having written two of the many songs (“Table for 2” and “True Blue”) that made it to commercial radio from that CD I felt much validation as a songwriter. For many weeks “Table for 2” was on the Billboard Airplay Charts. It peaked at #12 on the Billboard Indicator Chart for airplay in the nation in the Smooth Jazz genre.
Because the recording and marketing process of a new CD is so time consuming and costly I often thought after completing a project that it would be the last recording I would do for a long, time. I had no intention of putting a CD out anytime soon. I just didn’t know it at the time, how wrong I was.
However, still enjoying writing and recording I started focusing on
writing songs to pitch to publishers for TV, film and for other artists to record. This was a new way for me to create any style of song with no boundaries and not concern myself with the releasing or marketing of a new project. Almost everyday it was wake up, pray, Starbuck’s Coffee, pick up the guitar and write something.
Previously to all this I had written and recorded the song “Who What Where” that was re-recorded by singing sensation Timmy Maia which was also receiving some commercial airplay at the same time as “Table for 2”.
Also the song “I Didn’t Mean To Say It” from this CD was picked up by a publisher in CA to use for TV & film. As I was hitting a high water mark of success as a songwriter in my own career, Thank God for that, a little success kept my drive strong to keep working at my craft.
In such a short time I had enough original material for a couple of full length CD’s on my hands. After narrowing it down I put together this compilation of songs to release. With 11 original songs and a couple personal favorite cover songs that I perform live, “Slide” and “One”, the “No Boundaries” collection was born.
